Today is the first day of spring, which also marks Persian New Year. We were supposed to celebrate and visit family and friends, but with the outbreak of Covid-19, all social life has vanished from this celebration.
All people, in Iran and the US, are trapped in their homes. At least for once, we’re all in the same boat, suffering from the same situation. The fear of infection, of infecting loved ones, and being in such an uncertain situation is very stressful.
There are many questions, but they remain unanswered, and no one knows which direction holds the answers. No one knows how long this strange condition will last; we are battling an invisible enemy, technically in World War III, and we don’t know how to overcome it.
This situation reminds me of Anne Frank’s book, the story of an amazing young writer who chronicled her life during World War II while trapped in hiding for months, hoping to survive. I think our situation is somewhat better because at least we know no one will knock on our door and take us to gas chambers. We have enough food, and we know this fight will end. Our homes won’t be destroyed, but we might lose our jobs, which will make us stronger.
We have a lot of hope, and that’s a significant difference between World Wars and this microbiological war. We should stay positive, take all precautions, and eventually, we will return to our normal lives with our original problems.
